St. Thomas' College of Engineering & Technology
Kolkata, West Bengal
Department of Computer Science & Engineering
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering started its journey from the very first day the college started on 29th August in the year 2000. The department envisions to continually improving its educational delivery and research with a goal to develop engineering manpower with the strong academic background, who will respond swiftly to the challenges and changes faced in the rapidly changing scenario of Computer Science and Engineering. The objective is to educate, train and develop world class research and IT professionals with a mastery of not only hardware and software skills but also soft skills for professional success. Several of our students are serving nationally and internationally in various reputed organizations and educational institutes.

The department is regularly conducting workshops and seminars to groom both students and faculty to inculcate advancement of technology in Computer Science and Engineering with social and environmental awareness. With a mix of experienced and young faculty members, the department thrives in providing a disciplined as well as a well coordinated learning environment.

Four well equipped Laboratories are functioning seamlessly every day to enable the use of laboratory facilities for research activities. The department specializes in various disciplines under Computer Science, including Computer Network, Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, Database Management Systems, Distributed Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Image Processing, Language Processors, Mobile Computing, Network Security, Pattern Recognition and Web Technology.

The departmental library is equipped with latest books in various fields of Computer Science which provides additional insight to both students and faculty members. The department encourages students to participate in research under the guidance of faculty members. Students are motivated and encouraged to work on state of the art research and projects.  There have been a number of publications in Journals, International and National Conferences by students and faculty members over the last six years. The department aims to provide amenities for the students in every possible way and groom them for a successful life ahead.

The department maintaining its relationship with the industry, regularly organizes campus connects courses. Organizations like Cognizant Technology Solutions, Infosys conduct courses to enhance the technical skills of the students and make them industry ready. Students of the department are engaged in research oriented as well as industry oriented projects for which the department has one research/innovative lab and specialized project lab shared with Information Technology Department.
